A very rare and special opportunity to see Andrej Zulawski's celebrated sci-fi epic on the big screen - part of the Cube's silver anniversary celebrations.
Based on the first two books in his great-uncle Jerzy's 'Lunar Trilogy', On The Silver Globe follows the fortunes of a group of dissident astronauts, escaping a dystopian Earth, who crash-land on an alien planet and attempt to found a colony. Unfolding over subsequent generations of their descendants, the film is less concerned with sci-fi trappings than with mankind's blind optimism and existential failures. Like Zulawski's 1981 film Possession, the visually dazzling brushes against the brutally absurd in ways that is, by turns, funny and shocking...but never boring.
Due to the original production being closed down by Polish authorities part-way through shooting, Zulawski never managed to film the complete screenplay - when invited to reconstruct the film a decade later, he filled in the gaps by narrating missing scenes, allowing him to make a clear connection between the demented fantasy of the film and the strange reality which inspired it.
Without doubt the strangest and most memorable film you are likely to see this year!
