To mark the 40th anniversary of the release of ‘West End Girls’, we bring you this demented, picaresque road-movie starring the dour duo of pop, The Pet Shop Boys.
Much like the PSB’s songs, the film come on like an index of Englishness, portraying and poking fun at many of the stereotypical elements of the English landscape - from tatty seaside resort, via sinister motorway cafe to, of course, suburbia. Directed by experimental filmmaker Jack Bond - better known for his work with Jane Arden - the film is packed with amazing imagery, choreography by Arlene Phillips and a an eclectic cast that features Joss Ackland AND Barbara Windsor. As much a must for fans of oddball British cinema as for fans of The Pet Shop Boys.
