Sebastián Lelio’s follow-up to 2013’s acclaimed Gloria is a compassionate, multifaceted study of grief and solitude.

Newcomer Daniela Vega delivers a poised and intense turn as Marina, a young waitress and aspiring singer. Her partner Orlando is 20 years older than and owns a printing company. They are in love and planning for the future. When Orlando dies suddenly one night, Marina is left in a state of shock, yet nothing can prepare her for what follows. Faced with flagrant disrespect, first from the authorities and then from his surviving family, Marina finds herself having to fight for the basic recognition most of us take for granted.

Marina is a heroine for our times: a victim of cruel conservatism but a triumphant figure nonetheless. Compassionate, courageous and lovingly made, this is a film that will reach out and touch you.
