“One of the most mesmerizing films you could ever hope to see.” —Alex Papaioannou, InSession Film
In the ruins of an abandoned city, a young girl cares for a large egg she believes contains an angel. Her solitary routine is interrupted by the arrival of a boy searching for a bird he once saw in a dream.
First released direct to video in 1985, Angel’s Egg is a collaboration between director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell) and artist Yoshitaka Amano (Vampire Hunter D). Combining Oshii’s philosophical themes with Amano’s distinctive visual style, the film unfolds as a striking hand-drawn work shaped by atmosphere, imagery, and allegory now recognised as a landmark work of animation.
