            STRANGE THAN FICTION: THE FILMS OF JEAN PAINLEVE 
Pioneering scientist, documentarist, self-declared anarchist and scuba-auteur  Jean Painleve made a series of rapturous underwater films in the 1920s and 30s,  exploring undersea and microscopic worlds. 
Painleve found the work sometimes trying "but there are consolations: the  greatest being the ability to eat one's actors--crab, shrimp, sea urchins,  squid, all finely cooked in new and unusual ways." 
Tonight we screen submarine surrealist shorts including The Sea Horse, Sea  Urchins, How some Jellyfish are born, & Lovelife of the Octopus. Bring your own chips.
