Oren Peli's low-budget début has had a very clever marketing campaign but you really can believe the hype. A young couple use a home video camera to film strange phenomena occurring in their house while they sleep. For him it's a curiosity at first, and then a threat to his masculinity. For her it's much more serious - the return of a malevolent spirit which has a very personal interest in her. The framing of the sleeping couple, the open bedroom door and darkness of the hallway is so inherently creepy that even a slight door movement raises the hairs on the back of your neck. The finale is terrifying.
