Time of the Gypsies tells the story of Perhan, a young Romani man with telekinetic powers and his passage from boy to man that starts in a little village in Yugoslavia and that ends in the criminal underworld of Milan. Circumstances lead Pehran to leave his devoted grandmother and his loving girlfriend behind to use his powers to make some money illegally. Learning the trade of crime, the boy searches for his lost sister and tries to save money to realize his fantasy of returning home to marry the woman of his dreams.
Emir Kusturica's Time of the Gypsies is a curious and lyrical film: a glimpse into an exotic and obscure culture, a tragedy of lost innocence and
reaffirmation of love and family. The movie’s beautifully melancholic soundtrack was composed by Goran Bregovic and the film is worth watching for that alone.
