Garbage Warrior is a feature-length documentary film telling the epic story of maverick US architect Michael Reynolds and his mission to create radically sustainable housing out of recycled materials. Reynolds is not so much an architect as a one-man eco-movement who over the last thirty years has been dodging in and out of trouble with the local authorities in pursuit of his vision. He and his renegade building team build beautiful homes in the New Mexico desert complete with their own heat, water and potential to grow food. The homes are built out of discarded beer cans, reclaimed wood, old tyres and clay. Shot over three years in the USA, India and Mexico, the documentary provides a snapshot of contemporary geo-politics. This is an extraordinary tale of triumph over bureaucracy, and an intimate portrait of an extraordinary individual and his belief that in an age of ecological instability and impending natural disaster, his buildings can - and will - change the way we live.
