            Ashtray Navigations
with support from Mark Durgan + Chipper
(Saturday 18th/ 8pm/ £5/4)
Watch out! There’s a storm coming! Ashtray Navigations have been banging, scraping and grinding their trashcan toys and broken instruments in various incarnations since you young noise pups were in nappies, and they’ve no sign of letting up.
Inspired by an acute misinterpretation of Hindu Classical Music common to many teenage guitar-lashers of his deluded generation, Phil Todd formed underground legends Ashtray Navigations in the exciting toilet manufacturing capital of the UK, Stoke-on-Trent, in 1991. In attempting to fuse two of his favourite musical genres - sixties psychedelic rock and minimal power electronics, he inadvertently unleashed a fuzzed out psych forcefield that just keeps on whirring. Collaborating with some of the finest noise blasters of his generation - among them Matthew Bower, Alex Nielson, Pete Nolan, Yellow Swans - the Ashtray Navigations rush machine hasn’t since stopped, with whole splats of releases on labels such as Siltbreeze, American Tapes, Celebrate Psi Phenomenon, Spirit Of Orr, Qbico, as well a forthcoming scorcher on Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace imprint.
Expect spirally guitar rushes, wasted electronics, wind rush drones.
Come and be sucked into the maelstrom.
Support comes from Mark Durgan ( Putrefier / The New Blockaders ) and Chipper (North Sea Navigator / Crippled Black Phoenix).
