This summer the cube presents a series of nights, rethinking the idea of television along its own fractured lines. Born out of a dissatisfaction with commercial scheduling, along with the new possibilities of streamed content and the corresponding desire to open oneself up in an uncontrolled way to something ‘other’. Each night will be scheduled by guest programmers, offering their unique re-imagining of the Reithian principles: inform, educate and entertain. Expect tv episodes, documentaries, short films, music videos, trailers, dvd content…
Cinema as shared social space. A new audiovisual domain is waiting to be explored, where anything goes. Producing a mindset that is open to experience in a way that home viewing can never replicate.
Blackout Arts is an art collective. Established in 2002, we create audio, visual and mixed-mode art works. We also design, curate and manage events for the delivery of such work. Evolving from Bristol’s inspirational, amorphous arts enclave and world-leading Microplex – The Cube Cinema – Blackout Arts is playful, serious and open to suggestion. Our work includes collaboration with professional and non-professional artists and social groups to produce challenging art work and events.
Jem Noble is a mixed-mode artist and music creator for whom a core interest in sound has generated a wider fascination with the relationships between sound, image and space. His work encompasses solo and collaborative projects including sound and video installations, audio-visual compositions, performed film-rescores and improvised electronic music performance.
