A bracing, darkly comic pressure‑cooker of a film from Mary Bronstein, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You dives headfirst into the chaos of modern caregiving, drawing out the absurdity that bubbles beneath crisis.

Linda is a therapist barely holding her life together as she navigates a collapsing house with a mysteriously unwell child and absent partner. As the walls close in, the film slips between psychological horror and frazzled comedy, building a world where stress isn’t a subplot but an atmosphere you breathe. Bronstein’s direction turns everyday panic into something uncanny, surreal, and deeply human.

We’ve long admired Bronstein’s fierce intelligence as a filmmaker and her ability to illuminate women’s interior lives with honesty, discomfort, and unexpected humour. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is a major leap forward: a work that refuses easy catharsis, instead offering a portrait of burnout, responsibility, and the invisible labour of care. It’s bold, breathless, and anchored by one of the year’s most ferocious performances from Rose Byrne.

Winner: Golden Globe for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy)

Winner: Silver Bear - Best Leading Performance, Berlin Film Festival 2025
