RIAN TREANOR creates music that is complex yet highly kinetic, reflecting equal interest in club culture, dadaism and experimental sound design.

Early releases on The Death of Rave and Warp sub-label Arcola were followed by debut ‘ATAXIA’ and much acclaimed sophomore album ‘File Under UK Metaplasm’, both released on Planet Mu in 2019 and 2020 respectively. These established Rian as both a disruptive and essential new voice in British underground club music.

A series of collaborative albums have followed, working with Mark Fell in 2021, then releasing ‘Saccades’ on Nyege Neyege with Acholi fiddle virtuoso Ocen James in 2023 to further acclaim. Last year’s collaboration with artist Cara Tolmie, ‘Body Lapse’ another for Planet Mu, was a highly kinetic and playful endeavour and has received a lot of love.

Using the programming language Max/MSP, Rian develops bespoke software to explore extended rhythmic techniques and algorithmic processes that enable spontaneous pattern modulation within various collaborations, workshops, live performances and installations.

He has presented work at multiple leading arts festivals and residencies internationally inducing: Aphex Twin Curated Warehouse Project (UK), Nyege Nyege Festival (UG), WWW (JP), Bergen Electronic Kunsthall (NO), Le Guess Who? (NL) Unsound (PL), Mira Festival (SP), GES-2 (RU), Serralves (PT), Berghain (DE), CTM (DE), Rewire (NL), No Bounds (UK), Geometry of Now (PL), Empty Gallery (HK), Irish Museum of Modern Art (IRL), among others.

RAI TATEISHI is a shinobue and noh flute maestro and a key member of the cult avant-garde outfit goat (JP). Rai released an impressive debut, ‘Presence’, on NAKID in early 2025, recorded by label head and goat lynchpin Koshiro Hino (YPY).

After honing his skills with the internationally acclaimed Kodo Taiko Performing Arts Ensemble, he went on to found his own group Azuma and has since been active as a performer, collaborator, and educator, presenting his work worldwide and directing community-based festivals in Japan.

Now living a hermetic existence in a depopulated Japanese village, Tateishi has refined his sound in deep communion with his instruments, developing a style that transcends their usual boundaries. He channels ancestral spirits through fearless improvisations that range from lyrical breaths to percussive passages, alien sonorities, and ritualistic intensity.
