Susan Seidelman’s screwball classic returns to cinemas for its 40th anniversary — a glittery time capsule of 1980s downtown New York, counterculture style, and female mischief.

Bored suburban housewife Roberta (Rosanna Arquette) becomes fascinated by a series of personal ads exchanged between a mystery woman named Susan (the one and only Madonna) and her lover. Curiosity leads Roberta to the city — and a bump on the head leads to amnesia, mistaken identity, and a chase involving mobsters, misplaced accessories, and a romantic stranger.

Hot on the heels of (long time Cube favourite) Smithereens, Seidelman proved herself a vibrant new voice in American independent cinema — blending fashion, pop culture, and feminist sensibility with screwball tropes and a splash of Rivette. Desperately Seeking Susan is as much a cinematic romp as it is a celebration of self-invention, and a career-making showcase for Arquette.

After the film, get into the groove as Cube DJs attempt to summon the spirit of the Danceteria with a body-popping selection of 80s floorfillers and Madge bangers.

And that's not all: stick around for a special late-night screening of Mike Hodge's classic BLACK RAINBOW, starring DSS's Rosanna Arquette!
