FLOWERS/CORSANO DUO
The duo of MICHAEL FLOWER (Vibracathedral Orchestra) and CHRIS CORSANO (Bill Orcutt, Rangda, Paul Flaherty, a.o.) formed back in 2005. From their debut album, The Radiant Mirror, the duo has been the unique convergence of Corsano’s drums and Flower’s amplified Japan Banjo (also known as a Shahi Baaja, a type of electric Indian zither with both fretted/keyed and drone strings). Elements of free jazz, drone, and ecstatic psychedelia combine into something all its own, with Flower providing melody, lead, and drone, often simultaneously, while Corsano unleashes a multi-limbed, polyrhythmic approach on his kit. Gripping even in its quietest passages, thoughtful even in its most unrestrained crescendos, the constant push-pull between the two results in an ecstatic lift-off of the highest order.
ANNIE GARDINER
Songwriter, vocalist and producer, known for her dark psychedelic acoustic sad songs (hear 2021’s ‘Bloodletting), brings a new collection called ‘TONES 4 double bass and voice :)’ for this show. Accompanied, as always, musical wonder that is Jo Kelly on Double bass. TONES comprises of drones, harmonies, buffets of movement and though hardly a lyric will be uttered, there will be a song, maybe two. Born out of Annie’s original recorded improvisations, which were then scored and learned, Annie and Jo aim to find the moments to put the improvisation back in.
µ ENSEMBLE
An intense and ecstatic quartet of microtonal drones employing hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, viola, trumpet and radio, playing with the space around and the spaces in between.
