(Thu 13th Sept / 8.30pm / £5/4 or book at Arnolfini Box Office for a double bill with Seven Easy Pieces, £8/6, see below for details)
(Matthew Akers / 2012 / USA / 106 minutes / certificate 15)

From fearless experiments with body, her twelve year relationship and
collaboration with German artist Ulay, her performances that tested the limits of physical endurance and possibilities of the mind, Marina Abramović remains a charismatic, enduring and fascinating figure both for her life and her art.
This documentary follows the artist over three months in the run up to and during her major retrospective show at the MoMA in New York. The title of the film is taken from the show’s central piece, ‘The Artist is Present,’ a 736-hour silent piece, in which she sat immobile in the museum, while spectators were invited to take turns sitting opposite her. The film also provides, through interviews and archival clips, an overview of Abramović’s career and, with a privileged access to her home, bathtub and studio a glimpse at her seductive and outrageous persona.

The screening will be introduced by Paul Clarke of the Performance Re-enactment Society.

Seven Easy Pieces (Babette Mangolte, 2007) screens at Arnolfini on the same evening, at 6pm. Buy a double venue double bill ticket for £8/6 (available from Arnolfini box office in person or on 0117 917 2300 (no online bookings, sorry!).
