In a similar vain to Miranda July’s Me You and Everyone We Know (2005), writer, director and lead actress Lena Durham - playing protagonist and Youtube sensation in the making, Aura - wants to tell you why she’s having the hardest time. Moving back into her mother’s Tribeca loft along with her incredibly bright and talented younger sister, appearance blind Aura, after graduating form her identity searching Arts degree, turns to her childhood foe and friend Charlotte in a post graduate delirium. Brought up in similar
bohemian-bourgeoisie environments, both the children of established New York City artists, this love hate relationship appears to offer both characters somewhat of a natural placebo to the angst apparently enveloping them. Attending hipster, come computer-geek Manhattan parties, Aura meets fellow incipient and self-humiliating Youtube semi-celebrity Jed. Dunham who appears completely unfazed by her pretentiousness or appearance in the vain conscious surroundings she finds herself in is a refreshing ray of light. The almost Woody Allen depth of dialogue is comforting and makes this film flow well down Manhattans hidden back streets.
