-
Fri 9 October 2009 // 19:00

(Fri 9th / 7.30pm / £7)

Jodi Cave, (12K Records, New York), is a sound artist and musician originally from somewhere near Sheffield playing the clarinet, he went to study music, and then in 2006 completed a research internship at the renowned ircam in Paris. Jodi's work encompasses studio-based electronics, laptop performance and instrumental composition. His second album ‘For Myria’, on 12K, received universal critical praise upon it’s release - small islands of sound on an infinite playground.

Tonight he embarks on a surrealist cinematic journey, continuing his fragile and tender explorations. Performing improvised scores for the iconic surrealist classics ‘Ballet Mechanique’ (1924, Fernand Léger) and ‘La Concha y el Reverando’ (1928, Germaine Dulac), utilising clarinet and guitar delicately threaded together with dsp.

Support is provided by the upcoming Pausal (Barge Records, New York), who fuse lush soundscapes, with warming electronics, treated gtr and found sounds to envelope the listener in a blanket of nostalgic reverie – reminiscent of Stars of the Lid & William Basinksi. Re-enforced by their self-produced visuals – half glimpsed, fuzzy memories of years gone by.

Sonic and visual stimulation of the highest order.

Reel-to-reel tape machines provide accompaniment to bar side gatherings.
