2007 proved to be the Year of the Ridley. In addition to his long-awaited final version of Blade Runner, he also managed to produce his finest new work in over twenty years: American Gangster. A searing examination of the rise and fall of one of America's most notorious criminals Frank Lucas, the film is a
timely satire on the values of the American Dream, drawing apt parallels between the social climate of the early 70s and the Republican dystopia of modern America. It also lives up to its hype of being the best gangster film since The Godfather.
