This month, Hellfire Video Club have been enjoying the clement weather by wandering the woods. Yikes, they're hazardous! Still, we've dug up some dank morsels to bring back. But watch out, they're a bit bloody weird.

Our main offering tonight is the decades-neglected outdoor spookfest 'Eyes of Fire' (1983). A disparate group of settlers in 18th century pre 'United States' America are forced to leave town after their preacher is accused of adultery. Hoping to discover the 'promised land', they unfortunately follow this self-righteous berk into an ancient valley. There, despite warnings from Shawnee Indians, they find themselves stranded in an isolated forest, where an ancient spirit dwells. Of the group, only an unhinged mute outcast from supposed 'witch stock' may have the power to save them.

Stills photographer Avery Crounse's debut feature is a choice cut of freaky folk-horror, which, like so many of other greats, took time to find its audience. A beautifully photographed mix of cult leader parable, isolationist drama and creeped out uncanniness. Chock-full of beguiling and unusual DIY visual FX, and an encroaching sense of the blind panic you might encounter when you realise you really have lost your shit.

Plus! There's more for the brave venturers, as we go gently into the good night with a second dose of rural terror. If supernatural woodsy vibes are not enough for you, just stick around to see what the bummed-out humans are capable of...
