Update - Rob Curry the co-director and Paul Williams the producer will join the playthecube musicians to talk about the film and more at this screening.

A cinematic folk tale/documentary set in England's south east, of an adventurous and blessed young singer, whose heart is tragically broken and her singing voice completely and suddenly eludes her, she is unable to perform on stage again and ends up 'down' the Job Center, but all is not lost.

This is the lyrical portrait of the 'folk queen' Shirley Collins, where she comes from, the traditions and people she has encountered, and her return to singing on stage. Its a heady rich mix.

Brimming with history, her time with Alan Lomax, English folk traditions and memories of her sister Dolly we journey through landscapes and memories to find out what she lost, what she has kept and how she recovered and recorded her voice once more.

Long time friends such as David Tibet are there to help breathe magic into this amazing story and Shirley (who once read from her book on the Cube stage) authentically and gracefully recounts her times with super-fan Stewart Lee and folk singer Sam Amidon.

We are very pleased to round off Alasdair Roberts playthecube with this film and a discussion with Alasdair Roberts and those involved after the feature.
