Deluxe music documentary, striking live performance plus talks. Share some sweet airtime and go vagabond for beauty during an evening where we quietly celebrate the American primitive guitarist, New Age troubadour and acoustic spiritual healer Robbie Basho.

Basho was an orphan, diagnosed with synaesthesia and claiming to be the reincarnation of a 17th century poet – his musical output and unique personal story conjures up all kinds of strange radiances and reconciliations. The acclaimed film that explores Basho's life and influences as well as the live performance from C Joynes all tap into the mystery and dazzling wonder of artists whom wonder wayward on their own plight.
Voice of the Eagle: The Enigma of Robbie Basho, a film by Liam Barker is a journey into the heart of an artist's lifelong struggle - designed to illuminate and satiate existing fans while serving as a perfect starting point for the uninitiated (maybe for fans of Alice Coltrane, Bon Iver, Jack Rose or Davy Graham).
Featuring interviews with Pete Townshend, Glenn Jones and Country Joe McDonald as well as people behind Takohma, Vanguard and Windham Hill record labels. It also carefully brings in close friends and family and integrates new info with uncovered archive material and photography of the natural phenomena and landscapes that informed his work. Robbie's psychic(a)delic world views, interest in Native Americans as well his devotion of Indian Spiritual teacher Meher Baba all figure deeply. The film raises questions about his mystic visions, very strange death in '86 and the fruits of the missing archive! It is a beauty.

C Joynes whips up visions with his guitars. His music trips his hat to English traditions and Americana folk like Fahey, Sir Richard Bishop and even Bill Orcutt . His tunes are as light as aire and rooted to boot, technique never overwhelms emotion and melody twists with grit. Chris has gone way out solo and cut in with players like the Dead Rat Orchestra and Stephanie Hladowski. His list of music releases is strong and Rhodri Davies points out that he has explored “alternative melodic traditions: the English folk-tune; North and West African music; elements of classical Indian music; proto-minimalist and impressionist musics from the European classical tradition.” Basho also ghosts into C Joynes proceedings from time to time, so tune in 'with a different level of feeling'
