Tue 22 November 2005 // 20:00

(Tues 22nd / 8pm / £2)

Held in July in Osaka, Japan, since 2004 the Cineastes Organization Osaka EX, or CO2 festival affords a vital venue to showcase the work of the region's most promising talents from the field of self-produced independent filmmaking. All films are subtitled and have not been certificated. An interview with producer Kunihiko Tomioka can be found on www.midnighteye.com. Special thanks to Raindance Filmfestival and Jasper Sharp for their assistance.

RED SEED
(Makoto Asakawa / 2004 / 38 mins)

A poetic look at the life of a highschool girl, Haruka, after the elder sister who she adores commits suicide. Working in perfect tandem with the material, director Asakawa opts for the monochrome 16mm format with gorgeous, haunting results.

MOST DANGEROUS MAN ALIVE
(Nobuhiro YAMASHITA / 2004 / 49mins)

Very funny and twisted mockumentry about a police detective who moonlights as a 'gravy' actor- a guy who just does the cum shots in porn movies. A creative use of subtitling allowed the filmmaker to insert his 'afterthoughts' into the scenes. A brilliant performance that should resonate with anyone who's had to lie through their teeth in order to hide their inadequacies, physical or emotional.
PUSSY'S ADVENTURES IN LOVE AND REVOLUTION
(Hiroshi Nishio / 2004 / 65 mins)

Surreal, experimental tale in which Hana, a sexually traumatised young girl, is advised by her doctor to write letters to her nether regions in order to reforge a stronger connection between her heart and loins. Soon, at rape alarm producing factory at which she works, she meets Takeo, a disturbed young man who believes he is an alien and is plotting revolution against the human race.
