THE MOUNTAIN GOATS PLUS SJ ESAU + AXIS OF EVIL
( Fri 2nd / 8pm / £6 )

The Goat himself is John Darnielle. An incredibly prolific, low-fi,
folk singer songwriter. John Darnielle works alone and with others in various permutations: presently with bassist and multi-instrumentalist Peter Hughes (Nothing Painted Blue, Diskothi-Q).

Producing songs that give off spark, burn from the inside and outwardly gush. Darnielle's lyrics generally dwell on one or a combination of five subjects: relationships, food, water, the mythology of pre-Columbian Mexico, and animals that can talk.

Currently all songs on the new album "We Shall All Be Healed" are based on people that songwriter John Darnielle used to know. This, perhaps, accounts for the nervous tension that crackles through the album, as well as the curious tenderness that surfaces from time to time.

The Mountain Goats made me late because I couldn't stop listening.

SJ ESAUS
"..From a surging wall of sound to acoustic guitar he lifts, drops and surprises at every turn.. Currently playing acoustically but incorporating loops, violins, trumpets and small choirs depending on how many of his friends join him." www.sjesau.co.uk

AXIS OF EVIL
"A weak, cunted east coast rock combo"
