THE MANSON FAMILY
(VanBebber / 2003 / USA/UK / 95mins / 35mm / cert 18)
(Fri 1st + Sun 3rd / 9pm / £4/3)

After the groovy vibes of FESTIVAL EXPRESS, stick around for the ultimate come-down and experience the fateful events that effectively killed the Love Generation overnight. Set around the conceit of a documentary within a documentary, two men sit in an editing suit chewing over the finer points of the Manson Family case. The film attempts to go some way towards demonstrating Charles Manson's continuing influence over youth culture today (check out the Charlie Manson FUN PAGE amongst the 100000s of Google hits).

This hallucinatory mish-mash of dramatisation and documentary testimony drags you through an escalating cycle of drug taking, group sex and devil-cult rituals leading up to the infamous HELTER SKELTER killings. In August 1969 a band of Manson followers tortured and slaughtered 8 high-society types in their LA mansions. This included a coffee heiress, an internationally known hair stylist and Roman Polanski's pregnant wife Sharon Tate. Disorientating, distressing, and gratuitous...you have been warned.
