Float Records presents PHILIP JECK + JANEK SCHAEFER + John Cage's 'Imaginary Landscape No.4' + Leadtowine
(Thurs 11th Nov/8pm/£6)

Two internationally renowned avant turntablists descend upon The Cube tonight for a special new collaboration.

PHILIP JECK has been coaxing eerily evocative textures from the surface noise and locked grooves of junk shop vinyl since the early 80s, releasing
extensively on the highly respected Touch label; JANEK SCHAEFER is the notorious inventor of the world's most versatile record player, the 'triphonic' (3 armed) turntable and winner of 'The Award of Distinction' in this year's Prix Ars Electronica.

The pair share a history of inspired onstage collaboration, yet only this year have they taken steps to commit their work as an improvisational duo to record. The result, ‘Songs For Europe’ (Asphodel), was wrought from a
fortnight spent together in Turkey and Greece buying old records and scanning the airwaves of European radio in search of errant frequencies. Both artists leave much to chance in a live performance incorporating obsolete record players, prepared locked grooves, tape loops, toy samplers, and of course one triphonic turntable.

Also tonight, a troupe of short wave radio players reinterpret JOHN CAGE's classic piece 'Imaginary Landscape No.4' (1951) and Bristol based electronic trio LEADTOWINE bring their circuit-bent appliances and junk technology back to the Cube.
