BLACKOUT presents:

THE CENTENARY OF POWERED FLIGHT with NETHERWORLD AIRTOURS (live)
(Thurs 4th / 7.30pm / £5)

100 years after the Wright brothers opened the sky to the future with their first successful powered flight, Blackout invites you on a journey to the margins of aviation. This alternative centennial commemoration features: the live sonic excursions of NETHERWORLD AIRTOURS; readings by Decadent artists DURIAN GRAY and MEDLAR LUCAN; and films by the BUREAU OF INVERSE TECHNOLOGY (BIT) and artist/filmmaker DAVID HOPKINSON.

NETHERWORLD AIRTOURS is a live musical experience and tour operator with a difference. NA flights are a luxurious experience in dark texture, resonant sculpture and electrostatic punctuation, for the traveller in need of that quintessential something else. Featuring DAVID COULTER on airflow, violectra and analogue loop effects (Young God Records; Test Department; Kronos
Quartet); CHRIS LONG on midi accordion (cinestatic.com - Day 2); and JEM NOBLE on turntable-object-feedback interaction (Defcon Stylus; Lateral Cuts).
Accompanying the band with decadent meditations on flight will be MEDLAR LUCAN and DURIAN GRAY - Blaspheming test-pilots of the dissolving self; former proprietors of Edinburgh's extreme-eating establishment, the Decadent
Restaurant; and the gentlemen of indulgence behind the forthcoming Hellfire Club on Tour.

THE BUREAU OF INVERSE TECHNOLOGY is an information agency servicing the information age. The Bureau's work includes BITPLANE (1999; 15 mins): a highly compact spy plane that flew solo and undetected into the
glittering heartland of the Information Age. Footage recieved over no-camera zones Apple; Lockheed; Nasa Ames; Netscape; Xerox Parc; Interval Research; Atari; Hewlett Packard; will be included.

TAKING OFF (1992; 8 mins) is a short mockumentary by DAVID HOPKINSON about flight as explored through people's recollection of flying dreams. Mr. Hopkinson is one half of the eccentric hip-hop sophisticants Stoloff and Hopkinson and a celebrated cut 'n' paste DJ mixer (Ninja Tune1s Solid Steel Radio).
