Q presents JUANA MOLINA + special guests
(Fri 24th / 8pm / £5)

Hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, JUANA MOLINA is an extraordinary singer songwriter and producer whose music has only recently found favour outside her home country thanks to Domino Records. Curiously enough she was also once her country’s most acclaimed television comedian, starring in her own show - ‘Juana and Her Sisters’ - which became a hit across the Spanish-speaking world. Fortunately for us she left the world of comedy to return to music, her first love.

Yet this is no vanity project - there is something terribly innocent and humble about her music, and like Joanna Newsom or Devendra Banhart, she is a natural born iconoclast, capable of developing a totally personal aesthetic that defies comparison and categorisation. Her music flows from her acoustic guitar, with off-kilter electronic sounds and rhythms and a vast, strangely comforting plethora of noises from flora and fauna. As befits a natural comedian Juana is of course a mesmirising performer and recently caught the attention of David Byrne, who invited her to join him on his U.S. tour.

Plus GRAVENHURST (Warp Records) and FRANCOIS.

Q djs in the bar.
