(Jane Darke / 2007 / 90 minutes)

Nick Darke was a playwright, lobster fisherman, husband, father, ecologist and beachcomber. After suffering a stroke, his wife Jane decided to film his recovery - the darkly comic journey of a wordsmith sometimes stuck for words, and a record of their lives on the North Cornwall coast. But during filming Nick was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer. From that moment forward, this film becomes a love story, a record of precious moments and raw emotions. It captures Nick's attempts to finish writing his final play and to pass on knowledge and experience to his sons. It's also about the coast, how the couple have battled to save its ecology, have eaten from its larder, collected and catalogued its wreck and how it has inspired their art. An intimate and bravely honest account of love and grief. The film will be preceded by Kirsten Lepore's beautiful short animation 'Bottle'. Both films are screening with kind permission of the directors.
