(Mon 18th / 8 pm / £3/2 but nobody refused entry for a lack of funds)

Now in it’s third year, Bristol Fawcett Society and Bristol Feminist Network’s Representation of Women in the Media project is inviting the Bristol public to explore and investigate the ways in which women are portrayed in the media, and to discover more about how women are represented, misrepresented or
unrepresented in the media in 2009. We have looked at how women are represented in magazines, in films, on TV, on the radio, in the newspapers and in sport. We have explored the issues surrounding gender representation in children's media, from games to books, and we have asked questions about the way black and minority ethnic women are represented in magazines and newspapers. Sick of the way women are airbrushed to create an unrealistic view of women's bodies and faces, we took to the streets and protested against the use of airbrushing in the media, and fought against sexist and unhelpful problem page columns.
Join us at the Cube to hear about our findings, discuss how we feel about women's representation in the media, and start planning action to try to change how women are represented.
