Where's The Party To?

Fri 19 December 2008 // 20:00

(Fri 19th / 8pm - midnight / £4)

'Where's the party to?' is a film about the changes in Bristol's dance music scene. It features some of Bristol's well-established producers and DJs, and some more up-and-coming names to look out for. Documenters of Bristol's dance music scene have often focussed on bigger acts like Massive Attack, Portishead etc at the expense of producers and artists who have also been important to the evolution of the city’s music scene.
Bristol’s better-known bands are rightly acknowledged for their groundbreaking work and their cultural importance is not a bone of contention, but it’s those who have had to cope with their legacy, both the good and the bad aspects, that are more the focus of this film. Bristol is now a very different place to how it was in its ‘trip-hop’ heyday, and the scene has adjusted itself accordingly. Not everyone will agree with the perspective of the film, but then this city is many different things to different people isn't it?
The night will also include mystery performers and visuals and DJ sets from Clipz (Audio Zoo), Awkward (Vertebrae), Amo (Substatic) and Parker (Rocstar Recordings), showcasing indigenous Bristol sounds and tracks, tunes and joints from further afield that reflect Bristol's multicultural musical makeup too. This is a film about Bristol, for Bristol, and to this end all the artists profits on the night will be donated to the Roni Size basement project.
