Midwinter Mini Folk Festival

-
Sat 6 December 2008 // 19:00

with Sarah Joy, Jamie Harrison, James Gale, Red Trees and Robin Allender.
(Sat 6th / 7pm / £6)

Following the summer festivities of last June, the Cube invites you to warm up with a glass of mulled wine, to sit, relax and enjoy the midwinter activities, in the company of five more acoustic treasures.

Red Trees beguiled all who saw them when they played here back in June with their melancholy northern harmonies. Their sparse and delicate songs are at turns beautifully haunting or charmingly innocent. We're thrilled to welcome them back.

Robin Allender lends an ethereal air to the proceedings with his
hushed tones and disquieting chilly warmth. Robin has been much lauded recently for his fantastic guitar playing, but his appeal goes beyond mere
technical dazzle to produce haunting, spacious songs that linger in the mind.
Jamie Harrison makes a grubby singsong come out of his guitar and face. When he sings the wrong notes, amoebas fall in love. When he snaps a string, a pregnant crow miscarries. When he forgets the words, some sherbet goes all salty. He is Crown-Cyclops of holograms and grizzly Sea-King of the Midlands.

James Gale is a Bristol born and bred veteran of song. Possessing a style ranging from country to traditional folk, with a repertoire that extends way beyond his influences. Tonight James will be drawing inspiration from his recent European travels to bring us moving songs of love and loss.

Sarah Joy grew up in a pair of musical households, and spent her formative years obsessing over various girl singers, developing her voice, and formulating a style that would form the backbone of her work then to now. After many years of musical travels and collaborations, she arrived in Bristol and began performing solo, which is where we find her tonight, with us, at the Cube. Welcome her.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to unforeseen circumstances Jane Taylor will not be playing tonight as previously advertised.

ADVANCE TICKETS for this show only available in person from Prime Cuts Records, under RePsycho, on Gloucester Road, tel. 0117 9830007.
