A Cube favourite, amazing American feminist film-maker Anna Biller is a true auteur, known for her flamboyant and intelligent use of film genres, humour, the burlesque, and visual excess, to talk about female roles within culture.

For over twenty years, she has been casting herself in candy-coloured films, borrowing from various genres, and translating the aesthetic into her fascinating and absorbing world view. Not only is she a talented and engaging writer, director, musician and actor, but also painstakingly creates all the colourful stylised sets and costumes herself (be sure to look out for the beautiful hand-crafted pentacle rag-rug as an example!)

We screened Anna's much-beloved cult freak-out retro 70's spectacle VIVA back in 2008, and are now just over-the-moon-delighted to be bringing you her second feature, The Love Witch.

Elaine, a beautiful young witch, is determined to find a man to love her. In her Gothic Victorian apartment she makes spells and potions, and then picks up men and seduces them. However her spells seem to work just a little too well, and she ends up with a string of hapless victims behind her. When she finally meets the man of her dreams, her desperation to love, and be loved in return, will drive her to the brink of insanity and murder. With a stunning visual style that pays tribute to Technicolor thrillers of the ‘60s, The Love Witch explores female fantasy and the repercussions of pathological narcissism.

"a spellbinding feminist delight" Indiewire

"As enjoyable on a purely aesthetic level and as a feminist text, this film will be cherished for years to come." ★★★★ Little White Lies

Even if a screening is sold out, tickets are often available 30 minutes before the start of the film at the box office.
