German film maker Maren Ade's astonishing Toni Erdmann is pure cinematic joy. A rare film that makes you think deeply about the world and has you laughing and crying at the same time. It totally won us over and we are thrilled to be able to share it at last.

Following the death of his pet dog, Winfried Conradi (Peter Simonischek) decides to visit his workaholic daughter Ines (Sandra Hüller) in Bucharest, bringing a little chaos into her well-ordered life adopting a new, entrepreneurial persona: ‘Toni Erdmann’.

A bizarre, brilliant parable of the gulf of understanding between a father and daughter, dense with moments of unrestrained hilarity as it is with nuanced observations on gender bias.

★★★★★ "As great as you’ve heard, and probably even greater." David Jenkins - Little White Lies

★★★★★ "utterly unique and wholly indefinable" Mark Kermode - Observer

“it’s at once an inventive form of physical comedy and bizarrely touching.”
– Eric Kohn, Indiewire

“The world’s first, genuinely funny, 162-minute German comedy of embarrassment.”
 – Leslie Felperin, The Hollywood Reporter

“Get ready to retract every cliche joke you’ve ever made about Germans and their sense of humour — Toni Erdmann suggests that perhaps they’ve simply been operating on a higher level of joke all along.”
– Jessica Kiang, The Playlist
