(Martin McDonagh / UK / 2012 / 110 minutes / Certificate 15)

Following the critically acclaimed cult success of In Bruges, Martin McDonagh is back with an eccentric black comedy.

Colin Farrell returns as McDonaugh’s protagonist, Marty, a likeable alcoholic screenwriter trying to escape his writer’s block. He starts with just a title; Seven Psychopaths. Naturally, this evolves with the eventual creation of a psychopath but Marty is still lacking inspiration. Luckily he has energetically foul-mouthed friend Billy (Sam Rockwell) to assist him in his endeavours.
Alongside Marty’s struggles, we learn how Billy supplements his income; namely by “borrowing” dogs from their wealthy owners and collecting a reward, with partner in crime, Hans. (Christopher Walken) The situation becomes more complicated when Billy and Hans dognap a Shih-tzu belonging to the psychopathic leader of a crime mob, Charlie. (Woody Harrelson)

Real life collides with fiction, and it’s occasionally difficult to remember which is which. If In Bruges was up your street and you’re partial to a bit of tongue-in-cheek cinematic violence presented in an unconventional format, with a talented and established cast, come on down. Not to mention that there’s a cameo from Tom Waits as a psychopath armed with a white rabbit.

Screening each night in front of Seven Psychopaths will be Martin McDonagh's début short film 'Six Shooter'. A rare chance to see this Academy Award Winner on the big screen.
